How do I recover water from my wastes for reuse?
Turning organic waste into compost enables the reuse of goodness in the waste, including water.
The amount of water contained in waste depends on what you are composting - dry, carbon-heavy wastes like shrub pruning can actually need to be watered to be wet enough to start composting!
On the other end of the scale, wet and nitrogen-heavy waste types such as kitchen (vegetable and fruit) scraps are full of water that’s set free as they break down. This excess liquid quickly becomes a problem in standard systems like open-ended bins and tumblers that aren’t designed to handle wet wastes, causing nuisances like odours and infestations of tiny compost flies.
Kitchen scraps are best handled with Bioverter because it can provide continuous aeration to prevent odours and as an added bonus, turns the released water into nourishing compost juice.
